M47 - Open Cluster in Puppis


M47 (NGC2422) is one of three open clusters in the constellation of Puppis cataloged by Messier.   The other two are M46 and M93.   In addition to M47, two other open clusters can be seen in this image. A portion of Herschel H28-7 (NGC2423) can be seen at the left edge of the image while NGC2425 is the small cluster at the lower right.
